Accessibility for All Citizens Team (ACT) Now A newly formed California advocacy group was developed to empower people with disabilities and help them become effective advocates. ACT Now's Mission supports the concept that communities must go beyond compliance with state and federal accessibility codes and regulations and create buildings and facilities using the concept of "best practices". The organization's goal is to assure that local communities are truly accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities, by building understanding and developing positive working relationships with residents and business/building owners and, if necessary as a last resort, drawing upon the legal system to assure that the mandated accessibility is provided. The organization will meet once a quarter to choose one project and organize the community to get the access problems within the project resolved. Contact: Arnie Pike 714-961-1481 arnie@ampevents.com

The three online surveys on "problematic activities in public buildings, on public streets and in residential environments" will continue collecting data until 2010. Initial analyses of the first 620 participants' responses are available on the "Built Environment Research Project" message board . Design features proposed to remedy several of the most problematic activities are currently being developed. These proposed designs will be featured in a second round of three online surveys on "design effectiveness in public buildings, on public streets and in residential environments" that is tentatively scheduled to be launched in November 2008.
