California Department of Housing and Community DevelopmentCalifornia Building Code access requirements for privately funded multi-family housing are available within the State Architect's Access Compliance Reference Manual (PDF), Section 11A, (go to page 32). Assembly Bill No. 2787 This bill requires that guidelines be developed and at least one model ordinance for new construction and home modifications that are consistent with principles of universal design. The developer must make the information available but the modifications are not required but voluntary on the home owners part.
Summary of New Home Universal Design Checklist (AB1400) This law requires California builders constructing new for-sale residential units to provide a “checklist” of universal accessibility features to potential purchasers of a home. The Division of the State Architect (DSA) acts as California's policy leader for building design and construction, and provides design and construction oversight for K–12 schools, community colleges and Cal State Universities. DSA has offices in Sacramento, Oakland, Los Angeles, and San Diego. DSA also develops and maintains the accessibility standards and codes utilized in public and private buildings throughout California.

Access Compliance (DSA-AC). These are the final approved provisions for the 2006 Triennial Cycle to be incorporated into the 2007 edition of the California Building Code, Title 24. These are the building code changes that were adopted earlier this year by the California Building Standards Commission which will go into effect and enforceable on January 1, 2008. Web site
